About Nauvoo Global Methodist Church

Welcome to Our Church Family

At Nauvoo Global Methodist Church, we are a community of believers committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly. Whether you're seeking a church home, exploring faith for the first time, or looking to deepen your walk with Christ, we welcome you with open arms.

We are part of the Global Methodist Church, a movement grounded in historical Christian orthodoxy and Wesleyan theology, committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ and spreading scriptural holiness across the globe.

Our Story

From Vision to Reality

Nauvoo Global Methodist Church was born from a vision to create a faith community where people could encounter the transforming love of Jesus Christ in authentic, meaningful ways. Our congregation has grown from a small gathering of faithful believers into a thriving community that serves our local area and reaches out to the world.

The Methodist Heritage

Our roots trace back to the 1720s when John Wesley, his brother Charles, and fellow students at Oxford University formed a "Holy Club" dedicated to methodical spiritual disciplines. Mocked as "Methodists" for their disciplined devotion, they embraced the name and ignited a movement that would transform Christianity worldwide.

The Wesley brothers' emphasis on personal holiness, social justice, and evangelism created a dynamic faith tradition. John Wesley famously declared, "The world is my parish," capturing the global vision that continues to inspire us today. From those humble beginnings in England, Methodism spread across continents, bringing hope, education, and spiritual renewal to millions.

The Global Methodist Church

In 2022, the Global Methodist Church was formally launched as a new expression of Wesleyan Christianity, committed to historic Christian teaching and the authority of Scripture. As part of this movement, Nauvoo GMC stands firm on biblical orthodoxy while maintaining Wesley's emphasis on grace, holiness, and mission.

We joined the Global Methodist Church because of its clear theological foundation and unwavering commitment to scriptural authority. This alignment allows us to focus on what matters most: making disciples, serving our community, and proclaiming the Gospel with clarity and conviction.

What We Believe

Our faith is grounded in historic Christian orthodoxy and Wesleyan theology. These core beliefs shape who we are and guide how we live as disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Holy Trinity

We believe in one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This triune God created all things, sustains all things, and redeems all who come to faith in Jesus Christ.

The Authority of Scripture

The Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God, containing all things necessary for salvation. Scripture is our supreme authority for faith and practice, illuminated by the Holy Spirit and interpreted through the lens of historic Christian teaching.

Salvation Through Christ

Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead. Salvation is by grace through faith in Him alone. Through repentance and faith, we receive forgiveness, new life, and the promise of eternal life with God.

Sanctification & Holiness

God calls believers to grow in holiness through the work of the Holy Spirit. Sanctification is both instantaneous and progressive, as we cooperate with God's grace to become more like Christ in heart, mind, and action.

The Church

The Church is the body of Christ, made up of all believers throughout history. We gather for worship, mutual encouragement, and mission. Through the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion, we experience God's grace and our unity in Christ.

Christ's Return & Eternal Life

We believe Jesus Christ will return in glory to judge the living and the dead. Those who have trusted in Christ will enjoy eternal life in God's presence, while those who have rejected Him face eternal separation from God. This hope motivates our mission and shapes how we live.

The Wesleyan Way

As Wesleyans, we emphasize four key sources for understanding Christian truth: Scripture (our primary authority), Tradition (the historic teaching of the Church), Reason (critical thinking guided by the Holy Spirit), and Experience (personal encounter with God). This "Wesleyan Quadrilateral" keeps us grounded in biblical faith while engaging thoughtfully with our world.

John Wesley taught that Christians should pursue both personal holiness and social holiness—growing in our love for God while serving those in need. This balance of piety and justice continues to define Methodist Christianity and motivates our mission at Nauvoo GMC.

Our Leadership & Governance

Nauvoo Global Methodist Church operates under a connectional system of governance that balances pastoral leadership, lay involvement, and denominational accountability. This structure ensures faithful stewardship, biblical integrity, and missional effectiveness.
